Import of liquefied gas

Armenia imports liquid gas from Russia, Iran, and Iraq. Although there are also negotiations to import liquefied gas from Qatar, this country has not yet become a trading partner in this matter.

According to the indicators of recent years, Armenia mainly imports liquid gas from neighbouring Iran. In 2021, 61.3 percent of the total liquid gas reserves were imported from Iran, 27.7 percent from Russia, and 11 percent from Iraq.

The demand for liquefied gas in RA began to increase in recent years. There were drivers who preferred to use liquid gas instead of gasoline or compressed gas. Despite the growing demand, according to estimates, in 2021, only 12 percent of cars in Armenia will be filled with liquid gas.

The main reason for the increase in demand for LPG imports is that gasoline is expensive and compressed gas has a negative effect on the vehicle over time. Instead, LPG has tangible advantages, such as:

It is the least expensive and cheapest.

It harms the nature less because it is less toxic. It also has significantly lower emissions.

reduces the possibility of deposits in the car engine,
Unlike natural gas, it requires a smaller space for storage.

Liquid gas regulates engine power, elasticity and good performance. Also improves engine oil properties

According to the legislation of our country, certain taxes are set for the import of liquefied gas. Thus, when imported liquefied gas goes through customs procedures, VAT and excise tax must be paid. And how are these fees calculated?

The purchase price of the imported product is considered the basis of VAT taxation. The sum of the purchase price of the imported product and the excise tax calculated in accordance with the Customs Code is subject to excise tax.
